Thor Harris is a Texas-born musician, multi-instrumentalist, artist, and craftsman, renowned for his versatility and distinctive contributions to a wide array of musical projects. He has made a significant impact on the music scene, particularly within the experimental, rock, and avant-garde genres (he was the percussionist for Swans, where his dynamic drumming and eclectic instrumentation played a crucial role in the band’s sound from 2010 to 2017). Today, Harris is the frontman of the ensemble Thor & Friends - a vehicle for experimentation with the conceptual vocabulary of American Minimalism performed by a rotating cast of Austin-based musicians with the original core members including Peggy Ghorbani and Sarah “Goat” Gautier.
Since its inception, Thor & Friends has performed at festivals such as Austin Psych Fest, Levitation, SXSW, Thing In the Spring, and Sled Island, sharing stages with Faust, Beak>, Laraaji, and Yonatan Gat & The Medicine Singers. They have toured in support of Xiu Xiu, Wye Oak, Timber Timbre, and Adam Torres, among others. In addition to his work with the group, Harris remains active in multiple projects, including the krautpunk band Water Damage, while also pursuing visual art and advocacy for mental health awareness.
