ABOUT SONIC TRANSMISSIONS

Founded by Norwegian bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (The Thing, Atomic, The Young Mothers, Exit Knarr), the festival reflects his decades of experience as an internationally touring artist with
deep ties to creative music communities in both the U.S. and Europe.
Sonic Transmissions began as a 3-day festival (2015–2017) and later evolved into an extended concert series (2018–2019), featuring over 100 artists from around the world. featuring over 100 artists from around the world. When the pandemic struck in 2020, the festival adapted by launching Movement in Stasis, an online edition highlighting new works and performances from musicians based in dozens of different countries, presenting their art under lockdown conditions.
Following his return to Norway in 2020, Håker Flaten expanded the festival’s reach by founding Sonic Transmissions Records and establishing Sonic Transmissions North, with a presence in both Oslo and Trondheim. From 2021–2024, the platform has released close to 50 albums and presented commissioned video works from groups such as Irreversible Entanglements and Jordan Sand, and co-presented programs with Catalytic Sound Festival in Chicago and Trondheim-based Sonic Stills, building transatlantic connections while continuing to support genre-defying music.
Now in its second decade, Sonic Transmissions continues to foster community and experimentation across scenes, continents, and generations.
