Danish saxophonist, composer, and improviser Signe Emmeluth has become a defining voice in Scandinavian experimental music. Now based in Oslo, she is known for her strikingly sharp tone and a dynamic vocabulary that moves fluidly between playful melodies, raw primal energy, and fearless abstraction. Whether leading her acclaimed band Emmeluth’s Amoeba, performing solo, or collaborating with artists like Mats Gustafsson, Kresten Osgood, and Paal Nilssen-Love, she brings an intense presence to every project. She is also a frequent contributor to Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, where her bold, expressive playing pushes the boundaries of contemporary jazz.
Emmeluth’s compositional work has been widely recognized, earning her the JazZtipendiat 20/21, which led to her large-scale piece Physicality in/emotion premiering at Moldejazz. She has since debuted Banshee at Vossa Jazz and her latest ensemble work ALT at Borealis Festival in 2024. Praised as "one of the most original and fresh voices in the Nordic scene" (Salt Peanuts*), her music is provocative, emotionally charged, and constantly evolving—cementing her status as one of the most compelling artists in improvised music today.
This project is supported in part by the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
