Mustang Island, the third album from Austin-based band Little Mazarn, is a spacious, emotionally rich collection that pushes beyond the group’s folk origins into experimental, community-driven terrain. Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Lindsey Verrill joins longtime collaborators Jeff Johnston and Carolina Chauffe for ten songs that ebb and flow like the Texas coast the record’s named for. With Lindsey’s openhearted vocals and Jeff’s signature singing saw layered against bombastic drums, eerie synths, and orchestral flourishes, the band explores grief, memory, and transformation with newfound boldness.

Little Mazarn stands at the intersection of Southern outsider music and sonic exploration. Lindsey has recorded on cello with artists like Patty Griffin and Dana Falconberry, while Jeff has performed with Bill Callahan, Li’l Cap’n Travis, and Orange Mothers. Carolina, known for their solo project hemlock, brings further depth to the mix. Following collaborations with Lomelda and two previous LPs (Texas River Song and Io), Mustang Island is their most vivid and emotionally complex work yet—shaped by personal loss, career shifts, and the strange comfort of shared songs.
