Formed in 1997 as an offshoot of the larger Chicago Underground Collective, the Chicago Underground Duo, piloted by corniest Rob Mazurek and percussionist Chad Taylor, describes its music as “an organic mixture of African, electronic, coloristic, jazz-influenced life supporting systematic, non-systematic feeling from two humans trying ever to expand outward and inward for the people and ourselves.” The group – which includes the Chicago Underground Trio, Quartet, and Orchestra incarnations – has an impressive discography that includes releases on Thrill Jockey, Delmark Records, and Northern Spy.
