Lisa E. Harris, recognized by the Huffington Post in 2014 as “one of 14 artists who are transforming opera,” is a creator. The Texas-based producer – an opera composer and performer, filmmaker, singer-songwriter, writer, educator, community organizer, environmental transformist, and improviser – can be heard on Jason Moran’s 2015 Grammy-nominated album All Rise: A Joyful Elegy for Fats Waller. Additionally, she recently performed in residence at the 52nd Venice Biennial, and has written and directed two new opera films with live performance – Cry of the Third Eye (2011) and Children of The Lost (2015) – about gentrification in Houston’s Third Ward. In 2007, Harris founded the Third Ward-based mixed-media production company Studio Enertia and the studio’s artist-run and -operated Artist Residency Program.
