Woodwind player and composer Andreas Røysum has been leading his ensemble, consisting of some of the most talented young Norwegian players, since 2018.
The keen listener will be able to pick up a rich variety of influences in their music; the jazz tradition, from New Orleans to the AACM, folk musics from England via Morocco to Bali, and the expanded formal sense of 20th century notated music, are all discernible. Luckily we´re not dealing with a hip pastiche of styles. Subscribing to the transformative powers of Music and Togetherness, the ensemble has created it´s own musical universe, where Røysum´s compositions function as a diving board into the transcendental unknown.
On their fourth LP, the ensemble joins forces with the unique poet and artist Marvin Tate; a central figure in the creative scenes of Chicago for decades. On top of danceable grooves and within immersive soundscapes, Tate paints deeply evocative pictures with unquestionable conviction, unmatched intensity. It´s celebratory and expressive, fostering reflection and introspection. It will make you dance, and it will make you listen.
In 2025 Røysum Ensemble with Marvin Tate will make their US debut at Sonic Transmissions in Austin.
